Amazing Supper

Supper is Philadelphia is one of the best and tastiest restaurants I have been to in the city. The decor was amazing, the food delicious, the beer and wine very interesting and eclectic. Even the bathrooms were well lit and tastefully designed. I can't wait to go back and take Chris!

Bad Blogger!

I just realized September is almost over, and I have not posted anything since the 1st! I promise to do better! It is not for lack of things going on...My birthday was on the 9th, pretty fun, but birthdays just aren't as fun as they used to be. There should be a rule that you have to have a party with cake and friends and act like a kid. That would make every birthday fun, right?

We are in the second week of Center City Restaurant week and since Chris and I are both gainfully employed I have been taking better advantage of it. I would say we have, but since they are offering lunch this time around I have had more opportunity to take advantage.

So far have visited three restaurants and have plans to visit two more by the end of the week! For those of you not familiar with Restaurant Week, it is a time when the restaurants in Center City Philadelphia offer a 3-5 course prix fixe dinner (or lunch this time). It is an opportunity to try some of the fancier restaurants at below average prices. It's also a great excuse to go out!

I will try my hardest to do better blogging. At least I know I didn't miss my calling to be a great writer! :)

XOXO

Mastering the Art of Indian Cooking

In my Care2.com newsletter there was a reasonably simple sounding recipe for a Spinach Curry Paneer, one of my favorite dishes. I decided I would try it out. So far the cheese making was not hard at all (no pun intended, it is in fact a very soft cheese). Next, after refrigerating overnight, I will assemble the rest of the dish. Hopefully it is as delicious as I think it should be. More to come. This could be the start of a wonderful foray into the culinary world of India. Maybe I will try to master nan next, or the Tandori!! Baby steps, Hannah, baby steps....

Missing Mom

Today is the 2nd anniversary of one of the worst days of my life. The day I lost my mother. It is for selfish reasons alone that I am so sad. I know she is having a wonderful time dancing around heaven. I can even imagine her doing it. But I miss her so...There are so many things that haven't happend yet that I want to share with her. My husband starting his new career that she was so supportive of, our kids, our happiness....

No one hugs quite like Mom.

Gettysburg!!

So, I recently got a comment from a friend, "I love looking at your blog!" and I thought, shoot, I haven't updated that thing in ages!! The good news is, Chris and I have not been bumps on a log lately, well if we have, at least not at home...

This past weekend, we loaded up the car and headed out of town to Gettysburg, PA. Everyone I tell this automatically starts reminising about school trips and childhood shenanigans. We had a good time. We picked the loveliest day to wander around the battlefield and turned a two hour auto tour into about four and a half. We leapt on rocks and climbed scary look out towers. It never crossed our minds that someone afraid of heights (Chris) would struggle on the towers. They look so harmless and not that tall from the ground! We both were a little queasy towards the top, but made it and oh what a view!
It was a nice trip. We needed the time together and the R&R. More to come....

ACS Bike-a-thon

The American Cancer Society bike-a-thon on July 12th was probably one of the coolest things I have done in a long time. Well, since the Breast Cancer 3-day.... I was able to ride 46 of the 66 miles and it was an amazing ride. This picture was taken as we waited to head over the Ben Franklin Bridge in Philadelphia. It was a cool and overcast morning, the perfect start to the day. We started over the bridge to the theme from "Rocky".

The ride took us through Cherry Hill, NJ and into the country. It was all I could do to resist the produce stands along the way advertising New Jersey tomatoes and blueberries. We ended the ride at Buena Vista, NJ. I had arranged transport back to Philly and hopped on a huge bus. Our bikes were loaded into huge 18 wheeler moving trucks, 100 per truck.

All in all, a very rewarding experience and one I hope to do again next year!

Faux Van Gogh

In a recent magazine, there was a picture of a wall with a lot of paintings on it of all different sizes. They looked amazing, and it turns out they were paint by number! I decided I would like to try a few of those and see how they turn out. Chris thinks I am a huge nerd, but I asked him, "Is paint by numbering lame, or ironically cool?" Everything makes a comeback, why not this?

I attempted my first portrait. Horses from Wal Mart. I figured, it only cost $5, so what could it hurt. Well, in my haste to get up and answer the phone, I knocked all of the paints onto the picture, ruining it. Must be more careful next time, but it was fun while it lasted. This picture is one I will try next. I will update on the various stages and whether or not it is a cool as I think.

Doing things a little bit differently....

While I love my friend Kate's idea about doing a daily photo of things in my life, sometimes my days seem too predictable and repetitive. I decided that I will still post photos, but only when there is something worth posting. If anyone is following and cares, check back every now and again. Cheers!

One of the coolest things about walking home the long way (taking the subway to South Philly and walking west) is the beautiful view of the city that peaks out as you cross streets.

As I was walking home from the subway, I noticed a new mural on the buildings behind a basketball court. It was so beautiful!

On my way back to Philly I had to snap this photo of one of my favorite Southern Landmarks, the Gaffney Peach water tower. Big butt in the sky!

View of the beach access across the street from Folly Breeze, the house we have rented for the past two summers. I took this from the third story lookout we like to call "the crow's nest".

Not only is Chris growing an amazing playoff beard for the Bar Exam, but he also uses his study breaks to cook dinner! I am so lucky!

37/365

Well, I was pretty nervous about getting on a bike for the first time in over 10 years (even though I signed up for the American Cancer Society Bike-a-thon which is 66 miles!), but it was as easy and fun as I remember. In retrospect, I should have biked somewhere neat and taken a picture there, but my seat was so sore after 10 minutes, so I turned back. Not to mention it is a little scary biking the streets of Philadelphia. Tomorrow, a better seat and maybe a better ride!!

Chris's birthday treat requests: Gelato from Capogiro (best ever) and Hoagies from Primo Hoagies (also best ever).

This is a weird squeeze toy on my desk that makes weird sounds and bulges when you squeeze it. It is normally a spikey ball. It is very fun to squeeze.

It was a challenge taking this picture, but I wanted to represent for National Doughnut Day! Me and my Doughnuts on the bus home. Good times!

Setup for the Summer Associate Welcome Reception at work. Philadelphia was the theme, and it was a fun event.

Since I haven't posted in a couple of days, I am posting extra. Boomer was all curled up sleeping on the couch this evening. His paws were so cute!

25/365

I physically took this picture yesterday, but my cold addled my brain and I forgot to post.

This is one of my favorite windows in Macy's Center City. Love that the maxi dresses are in fashion!

The door in our back yard to the alley behind. I have plans to turn this into a much prettier place. More to come at a later date.

Every weekend I drive across the Walt Whitman Bridge into New Jersey to shop at my favorite retail mecca - Super Wal-Mart. Although it is free to cross into NJ, they wont let you out again until you pay the toll, but it is so worth it for wider aisles and friendlier folk.

22/365

It is so difficult to get a photo of Boomer, he usually does not sit still long enough.

I was on the couch eating a Roast Pork sandwich and looked down to this cute face. He is so sweet!

Cup-a-tea in my lovely Frida Kahlo mug. Stupid allergies are doing a number on me this season. Apparently, the pollen is exceptionally bad this Spring.

20/365

Chris's graduation present and our newest toy. This was the first time I ever participated in a holiday sale. I arrived at 6th ave. Electronics around 7am and stood in line for this TV. It was interesting and a little nerve wracking! Not sure that I will ever do that again....

Tonight, Chris and I met some friends of ours, John and Kate, for dinner at Distrito, a Mexican tapas restaurant. It was very cool, and the food was delish. Chris is there in the corner of the photo.

My wonderful husband accepting one of his many awards at the pre-graduation honors ceremony. For any of you who don't know, Chris graduated today from Temple Law School. We have a doctor in the Rees Family, a Juris Doctor! I am so very proud.

Reading terminal market. One of my favorite places to visit and shop. Today I had a veggie sub from Salumeria and a Peanut Butter Chocolate chip cookie from 4th Street Bakery (yummo!). The produce at Iovines was amazing too. Such a great place!

13/365

After work, on my way to dinner with Chris, I turned back, and this is what I saw.... Sometimes Philadelphia amazes me at how beautiful it can be. This is Love Park, named that because of the famous Love statue that you can sort of see through the fountain. In the background is City Hall with William Penn watching over us all.

My Funky Chickens. There was, probably still is, this guy named Ernest Lee who drove around Columbia in a pickup truck with a trailer painted like a barn. He would set up in empty parking lots and sell his wares. When I visited to pick out these paintings, he sent me to Church's Chicken for a two piece meal and a large iced tea. I hope he is still cranking out the paintings. He also did/does palmetto trees, very popular in South Carolina.

Ok, it's a little blurry...Shaky hands, I guess. Anyway, these are the finished couch pillows! I am kinda proud. Chris is not as enthusiastic, but I have enough for both of us.

This is becoming one of my favorite places. My sewing nook! I am currently working on pillows for the couch.

We always called this the jelly cabinet. Not sure why, I think it has something to do with canning back in the old days. Anyway, it was a catchall for pictures and Chris's keys, but now...It is a beautiful bar! All it needs is the wine and ice bucket. Any the booze decanters to be filled...That is my next task before the family arrives for graduation. It will be needed!

Cats sleeping in a row. Boomer is the black and white one and Petey the orange one. When they are vying for my attention they act like they can't stand to be near each other, but then there are moments like these. Chris found them in the bed the other day and Boomer had his paw on Petey. See, they really love each other, and I love them!

7/365

One of the best things about Chris being finished with Law School (all he has to do is walk!) is that he has taken to experimenting in the kitchen. There are some misses, but more hits. This dish, Spaghetti and Meatballs, was a Hit!! Yummo!
